Jos — 800 members of the Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN) in Plateau State are presently undergoing five-day training in peace and security as part of efforts to equip them with modern security challenges.
The training which commenced on Monday is organised by the Reconciliation Trainers Africa, a nongovernmental organisation involved in trainings, research advocacy and documentation in five northern states of Plateau, Benue, Taraba, Adamawa and the FCT.
The Director of the organisation, Joseph Maren Sampson yesterday told our correspondent that VGN members were been trained in security management strategies, negotiation skills, conflict resolution skills, early warning response and terrorism as part of efforts to empower them with skills to do their jobs professionally.
Sampson said though this is the first time the organisation was training members of the VGN, it had in the past trained and empowered religious and traditional leaders in its areas of operation.
