Golmetne Gofwen, a civil servant and ardent social media activist and commentator of Plateau affairs has passed on. He died in the late hours of Saturday afternoon, 10th September 2016, after a long drawn-out illness.
Tributes and eulogies about his dogged spirit, patriotism and passion flooded the Plateau-sphere as news of his demise filtered in.
Golmetne is fondly remembered for his resolved, grit and strength to stand for what he believes in, and doing so without fear or trepidation.
He was an ardent supporter of the Rescue Team’s policies and programmes as such, he formed relationships with several principals of the team, eventually extending his appeal to admirers on the opposition side – who disagreed with his positions, but gleefully admired his commitment and passion what he believes in.
In one of his last posts on 18th August, i.e., shortly after being discharged from hospital, Golmetne thanked his friends, colleagues, the Rescue Team’s media team and well wishers for their prayers, support and visitation during his 1 week admission at JUTH. He praised the Plateau spirit of togetherness, quibbling that “Politics might divide us, but our brotherhood and togetherness must remain intact”.
At the time of his death, Golmetne was a staff of the Plateau State Local Government Service Commission. He was an alumni of both the Langkuk Memorial Secondary School, Pankshin and the Federal College of Animal Health and Production Technology, Vom.
