Following the horrific attack on the residence of the newly appointed VC of the University of Jos, ViewPointNigeria got in touch with  sources in Jos, who are close to the Vice Chancellor to obtain further information about what transpired.

Our source, who is a close “confidant” of the Vice Chancellor, shared exclusively, a press statement released by the University (duly signed by Abdullahi Abdullahi, Principal Asst. Registrar of the University of Jos).

The statement clarified, that on Wednesday 27th July 2016 at approximately 8:30 pm, unknown assailants arrived at the personal residence of the Vice Chancellor, at Eto Baba, Angwan Rukuba and opened fire at the entrance of the residence. The barrage of bullets was said to have hit and killed one of the policemen (Mr Owes Jibrin – an Assistant Patrol Supervisor attached to the residence).

A second policeman who was also on guard at the residence (Mr. Adama Salihu – a corporal from the Nasarawa Gwom police station) was equally struck by the barrage of bullets, as such he remains in critical condition at a hospital in Jos.

Other security officers on realizing what was happening, were able to stage a daring escape and ultimately notified security agents who responded promptly to the distress call – as such no member of the VC’s family was hurt.

At the time of the brazen attack, the VC (Prof. Seddi Maimako) was equally away from Jos on official assignment as such was not in the vicinity of the attack.

The attack was said to have left both the management of the university and people in the neighbourhood in utter shock and dis-belief.

Following the incident, the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Administration), Prof. Teresa Nmadu paid condolence visits to the families of both the deceased policeman (Owe Jibrin) and the injured (Adamu Salihu).
