Information from sources in Jos have confirmed to ViewPointNigeria that the immediate past Governor, and now Senator representing Plateau North, Da Jonah Jang has heartily appealed to all aspirants vying for positions in the Plateau state PDP EXCO to view their aspirations as a call to build the state and an opportunity to serve, as opposed to one of personal aggrandizement or self advancement.

Speaking through his principal aide, Mr. Clinton Garuba, Jang said “service to humanity is a calling, which should not be taken for granted. Anyone who has the rare opportunity to serve as leader must appreciate that with power comes responsibility and accountability – both to the citizenry and to God. As such, we must be careful not to undertake acts or make statements which are capable of overheating the polity and jeopardizing the very privileges bestowed on us by God.

Making his point, he said, “in my position as party elder, I remain very committed to advancing and building not just the PDP, but the state and its citizens from their current economic and social statuses to loftier heights. Saying –“the welfare, security and upliftment of all Plateau citizens irrespective of party affiliation, social status, ethnicity or creed is my primary focus and I will continue to do everything in my power to advance this cause”.

About the controversies relating to the zoning of EXCO offices, Jang expressed his faith in the democratic process and the “spirit of togetherness and understanding in PDP” – saying even though there are disagreements in a few fringe sections, my faith in the respective personalities who may disagree, has not diminished. I hold everyone in our party in high esteem and I am confident that those who disagree with the party’s decision will in the spirit of service soon view things from a non-personal level.

I do not take lightly the opportunity to serve my people. I remain committed to both our party and to Plateau citizens and shall continually strive to view issues beyond personal ambition or differences. As a family, I know that we (PDP) shall find amicable ways of resolving these issues.

In closing, Jang re-iterated his stance that he does not have a preferred candidate in the coming PDP caucuses and encouraged all and sundry to throw their hats in the ring (in line with the party’s stance), to re-enforce and consolidate the democratic process.
