Ten people were killed Tuesday afternoon in a car crash on the highway in Mangu local Government Area of central Plateau state, police said.
A witness said a truck crushed a fully loaded commercial 504 Peugoet salon travelling from Jos to Shendam, and killed all occupants of the 504 peogoet.
The spokesman of the Nigeria Police Force in Plateau state, Abuh Emmanuel, confirmed the incident to journalists via telephone on Wednesday.
Mr. Abuh said the remains of the victims had been deposited at various morgues across the state, but said he could not give further details on the deadly crash.
Some witnesses said some of the badly mangled bodies were given a mass burial near the scene.
Another eye witness who saw the accident happen, said it happened because of speeding, saying both drivers lost control of the their vehicles due to overspending.
A woman in Bukuru, Jos south Local Government Area, who identified herself as Mrs. Chizoba, said she lost her younger sister in the accident, and that her remains were identified by her cloths and wears.
According to Mrs. Chizoba, the accident occurred at about 2:00 pm on Tuesday.
She said her sister, a student of College of Agriculture Garkawa, was returning to school after the Easter break on Tuesday.
