Plateau state Government has arrested and deported about 241 illegal aliens living in Jos. The action was made possible by the combined efforts of men of Nigerian immigration Service (NIS) and the Special Task Force (STF) who raided the communities sheltering the suspects.

Addressing newsmen in Jos on Saturday the State commissioner for Information, Pastor Yiljab Abraham said the aliens were found not to be having the required papers to be in the country so should not be in the state. He said their continuous presence was a security risk “we still get reports that there are people that are desperately looking for ways to hit on Plateau, and we are watching and working round the clock to get them out”.

The commissioner advised citizens of the State to be vigilant and watch out for strangers who look suspicious and report them to law enforcement agencies. He said that the new boss of the NIS has beefed up security at the various borders with electronic surveillance to ensure the deportee don’t get back into the country.

While speaking on the recent attacks in Bisichi near Foron, the commissioner said it was a robbery attack and not ethnic or religious in nature while adding that six of the suspects have been arrested and are currently undergoing interrogations. He said the State Government was doing everything humanly possible to ensure that security is maintained in the state

On the Taraba leadership crisis, Yiljab said that Governor Jang and Plateau people were happy that Governor Danbaba Suntai survived the ghastly plane crash and is doing well. He said “the Governor has no hands in the political tussle in Taraba, and has not committed any finance of Plateau State to that course”, adding that “Governor Jang has a plateful of Plateau responsibilities in his hands and would not use Plateau resources to finance the course of another state, and Shehu Sani is too far from Plateau to know what is happening here. I don’t want to join issues with him.”
