Two persons have been reported killed at Diyam-Rim village of Riyom Local Government Area while over a hundred houses and farm produce have been burnt at Rakwak and Rantis villages of Barkin Ladi Local Government Area all of Plateau.

The attack was said to have lasted for over an hour with no security operative at the scene. The attackers in Rakwak and Rantis burnt over a hundred houses and properties including farm produce however one of the attackers was not lucky as he was apprehended and burnt alive by members of the communities.

Plateau State Police Public Relation Officer (PPRO), Ms Felicia Anslem said that she was not aware of the incident and stated that “Such report has not come to our notice for now but I will find out”.

The member representing Riyom at the Plateau State House of Assembly, Mr Daniel Dem said that he visited the villages in his constituency and described the attack as inhumane. He also said that he was not happy that security operatives did not respond or arrest any of the gunmen.

The Caretaker administrator of Barkin Ladi Local Government Area, Mr Habila Dung stated that attackers stole some of the farm produce before setting the houses ablaze. He said that it was the second attack in one week.

A villager from Rakwak and Rantis said the communities received an unaddressed threat letter and reported it to the security agencies but no action was taken. He said “From the very day our children came back with a letter they said they picked at a junction leading to our village, we have been having sleepless nights; that was why most families relocated to other villages that seemed better protected. Our elders reported to security agents yet we were attacked yesterday”.
