The National Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) in Plateau State has urged the State government to pay local council workers the full national minimum wage.

The assistant secretary of NULGE Plateau State Chapter, Mr. Reuben Sarki, said council workers have been agitating for the implementation of the N18,000 minimum wage since 2014.

Speaking, he said, “Some local council staff collect as low as N8,000 to N10,000 as their monthly salaries, which is completely unfair and unacceptable.”

He explained that the welfare of workers should be prioritized, saying that with so much bills for electricity, high fuel price, school fees, hospital bills and other utilities, a salary of N8,000 amounted to slavery.
