STAFF PROTEST SHUTS DOWN PLATEAU STATE SPECIALIST HOSPITAL FOLLOWING ALLEGED DSS ASSAULT

Activities at the Plateau State Specialist Hospital were brought to a sudden halt following a protest by hospital staff, who locked down the facility in response to an alleged assault on a colleague by operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS).

The incident reportedly stems from an altercation that occurred last week at the hospital’s Emergency Paediatric Unit (EPU) pay point. According to eyewitness accounts, a patient’s relative clashed with a staff member identified as an accountant after being informed that it was not yet the patient turn to be attended to.

Although the initial dispute was resolved and formally reported to the office of the Chief Medical Director (CMD) for investigation, the situation escalated when the patient’s husband, allegedly an operative with the DSS, intervened.

Operatives from the security agency subsequently entered the hospital premises, reportedly assaulted the accountant, and forcefully the staff from the facility using their vehicle.

The assault prompted immediate outrage among hospital staff, leading to a protest and the complete shutdown of operations at the medical facility.

As of the time of this report VPN is yet to contact the. representatives of the Department of State Services for comment Further details will be provided as the situation develops.
