Jos –News reaching ViewPointNigeria indicates that the father to the immediate past deputy Governor of Plateau State, Mrs. Pauline Tallen has died at the age of 102. He was said to have passed-on at his residence in Jos on the 9th of June 2013.

The Governor of Plateau State, Da Jonah Jang was said to have put aside previous bitterness and confrontations to visit the family home of the former deputy Governor on Tuesday to pay his condolences. During the visit, he said the late Mr. Paul Kattiem will be given a state burial in recognition of his immense contributions to the development of Plateau State.

Accompanied by his current deputy Governor, Mr. Ignatius Longjan, the Governor said the late Mr. Kattiem lived a fulfilled and exemplary live worthy of emulation. He said “Death is a necessary end; therefore, Pa Kattiem has to leave us at the time God appointed for him”.

Jang averred that given that the deceased was one of the very early people to receive Christianity in Plateau State and have since served God faithfully, his death called for celebration as opposed to mourning. He therefore requested the family not to linger in mourning like unbelievers do, but to celebrate his life to the glory of God.

Responding on behalf of the Kattiem family, one of the elders of the Goemai family, Mr. Anthony Hoomsuk thanked the Governor and his entourage for the show of concern and prayed for the repose of the soul of the deceased.

Political observers believe this act of humanity by the Governor may ease the high tension between his camp and that of the former Deputy Governor, given the history of confrontation and verbal spat between the two in previous years. It would be recalled that during the 2011 elections, they both publicly derided each other and Mr. Tallen challenged her former boss to his seat during the elections.
