The NotTooYoungToLead group has called on political parties, their delegates/stakeholders to support young aspirants who have demonstrated good character and capacity over the years. The group made this call in a statement issued by the Executive Director of the Group, Amb Elvis Akpobi and made available to journalists in Asaba the Delta State Capital.
Amb Akpobi who is also the Special Assistant to the Delta State Governor on Youths Development stressed that the NotTooYoungToRun act has opened up opportunities to Nigerian youth, however it is important to support not just any young person but those who have shown good character, and have demonstrated their capacity in their various endeavor.
He stressed that this will give young people better footing and a foundational base for political participation and involvement in governance, adding that it was high time Nigerians practicalize their support for youths by ensuring that they are given tickets and a subsequently voted into office to add value to the nation’s democracy.
Amb Akpobi used the opportunity to appeal to stakeholders of political parties to also support young aspirants financially given the very high cost of nomination forms especially within the major political parties in the country. He decried the high cost of forms stressing that most young people who have the capacity to run for office may be technically handicapped because of the costs.
